Causes of Heartburn
Heartburn, which is usually felt 2 hours after meals, occurs as a result of the body producing excess acid during the digestion of difficult-to-digest foods. It is especially seen as a result of excessive consumption of heavy, oily fried foods and spicy foods.
The main foods that are good for heartburn include olive oil, potatoes, carrot juice, celery, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, apple cider vinegar, mineral water, licorice root, toasted bread, peas, beans, lentils, and bananas.
What Should We Do to Prevent Heartburn
The most fundamental cause of heartburn is irregular eating. Meals should be eaten in 3 main meals and 2 snacks a day. Also, you should minimize oily, sugary, salty, spicy foods, and pastries. Furthermore, eating quickly causes food to be swallowed without being chewed sufficiently. The stomach starts to secrete more acid to digest poorly chewed food. Therefore, each bite should be chewed thoroughly and slowly. You should make it a habit to eat small amounts frequently. Also, tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, and chocolate cause heartburn. You should not sleep immediately after meals; digestion should be ensured by taking a short walk.
